  19. 02:40 background the psychological processes motivations emotions and cognitions that
  20. 02:46 underlie the narcissistic employees misbehavior and I’m going to discuss today the inner landscape of the mind of the narcissistic employee
  21. 02:58 let’s start with a basic fact employment being employed having a job
  22. 03:06 requires hierarchy you have a boss you have someone above
  23. 03:12 you and he has someone above him and she has someone above her hierarchy
  24. 03:19 very few workplaces are organized as networks the vast majority are still
  25. 03:26 hierarchies so the minute the minute you get a job the minute you become an employee
  26. 03:33 you succumb you accept Authority it’s a command economy You Are
  27. 03:42 by definition inferior and you have superiors indeed
  28. 03:48 in many workplaces that’s what it’s called You’re Superior can I talk to your Superior now there’s nothing The Narcissist hates more than to be considered inferior to
  29. 04:01 someone who is superior hierarchy is is
  30. 04:07 anathema to The Narcissist he hates it he hates it because he is not on top of
  31. 04:13 the pyramid heck he is not the pyramid narcissists don’t regard anyone else is
  32. 04:22 entities as separate as people narcissists regard others as objects
  33. 04:29 things instruments internal objects remember the
  34. 04:36 narcissists snapshots other people and then he internalizes the snapshot he
  35. 04:42 interjects it and it continues to interact with a snapshot not with the external real person who gave rise to
  36. 04:50 the snapshot narcissists have difficulty to distinguish external objects from internal objects and so the hierarchy the discipline
  37. 05:03 the chain of command the structure the order are exceedingly difficult and
  38. 05:10 taxing taxing and demanding as far as the narcissist is concerned
  39. 05:16 because these challenges the very foundations and pillars of his inflated
  40. 05:23 self-perception and self-image in short it undermines his grandiose fantastic
  41. 05:30 view of the world and of himself in the world he has someone above him Superior
  42. 05:38 to him employment having a job also No text requires in the vast majority of cases teamwork now we do have schizoid vocations schizoid jobs like coding
  43. 05:52 but still the overwhelming vast majority of jobs require teamwork
  44. 05:58 teamwork is egalitarian you’re equal to all the other members of the team you’re
  45. 06:05 supposed to listen to what they have to say you’re supposed to consider the feedback and input you’re supposed to respect them no no is foreign
  46. 06:16 these are horrible counter-intuitive demands he’s not gonna he’s gonna not gonna play the game it’s not gonna succumb to to conformism he’s
  47. 06:27 gonna he’s not gonna play ball with people who are manifestly more inferior to him teamwork is not for the narcissist so hierarchy is not for the narcissist
  48. 06:40 teamwork is not for the narcissist and when the narcissist finds himself as an employee in a structured order ordered
  49. 06:48 corporate ladder type company with colleagues
  50. 06:54 core you know core leagues core same Co equal
  51. 07:00 you know when he finds himself in these situations he experiences a repeated
  52. 07:06 narcissistic injuries and there is even a very high elevated risk of narcissistic modification just
  53. 07:14 remember what is modification modification is public humiliation and shaming which is
  54. 07:22 unpredictable unexpected and in front of significant others or peers and this happens very frequently in the workplace especially if you’re a jerk or
  55. 07:35 an a-hole the workplace presents an arena where modification is a lot
  56. 07:43 more likely than outside the workplace it’s a dangerous a dangerous space as
  57. 07:51 far as the narcissist is concerned because remember that narcissistic modification is the disintegration of the narcissist defenses a process known as decompensation the false self is
  58. 08:03 deactivated and the narcissist remains skinless it’s like he has been flayed
  59. 08:11 and he remains remains defenseless this firewall is disabled and essentially it begins to disregulate and resembles clinically very much someone with borderline personality disorder
  60. 08:23 the workplace from the very beginning is a threat everyone is in the workplace is narcissistically injurious the boss
  61. 08:35 and colleagues our potentials for modification not a very pleasant proposition one must admit so immediately The Narcissist does what he tries to restore his damage challenged undermined sense of
  62. 08:53 grandiosity he needs to regulate his sense of
  63. 08:59 self-worth and the way he does this is by divorcing reality engaging in a Fantasy Defense becoming delusional this is known as grandiosity
  64. 09:10 how does the narcissist restore his sense of superiority is belief in
  65. 09:16 his own Transcendence how does he do that in the workplace well
  66. 09:22 through a variety of techniques bullying bullying empowers The Narcissist makes
  67. 09:29 him feel omnipotent all-powerful the ability to inflict pain to induce Terror
  68. 09:36 fear in other people is very intoxicating as far as the narcissist is
  69. 09:42 concerned and he continues to engage in bullying throughout his career
  70. 09:48 next thing conspiracies collusions now all employees everyone in a corporate
  71. 09:57 structure is busy building coalitions Coalition Coalition building is a very
  72. 10:05 common practice and very beneficial as far as the cooperation is concerned it’s
  73. 10:11 encouraged and commended Coalition building is a prerequisite and
  74. 10:18 the precursor of teamwork but the narcissist abuses Coalition building processes and techniques he renders them malignant and instead of building coalitions for
  75. 10:30 the good he creates engenders participates in and
  76. 10:36 initiates conspiracies collusions intended to Target specific individuals
  77. 10:44 who have narcissistically injured The Narcissist or potentially have the potential to do so
  78. 10:51 he tries to take down his boss he tries to sideline um his colleague he tries to get someone fired and tries to get someone hired this is
  79. 11:04 all collusive there’s a collusive practices which go hand in hand with
  80. 11:10 coercion and frequently coercive control with his underlings The Narcissist displaces his rage his anger his frustration and his aggression takes it
  81. 11:22 out on his underlings on his employees on the people
  82. 11:28 his subordinates so there is a two-way flux here a two-way
  83. 11:34 flow frustration flows from Up
  84. 11:40 down to the narcissist and the narcissist is then redirected at his own
  85. 11:46 subordinates people in who who is the boss of No text so collusion it’s another way to resuscitate and revive and restore damaged grandiosity because the narcissist is at the heart of the
  86. 12:06 conspiracy the instigator of the collusion The Mastermind behind everything so he he’s in charge of the plot
  87. 12:17 it’s a bit paranoid because collusions and conspiracies involve a lot of Suspicion a lot of survey surveillance a lot of a need to watch your back and
  88. 12:31 look behind your shoulder and that fits the narcissist perfectly because paranoia is a form of narcissism
  89. 12:39 it places The Narcissist at the center of attention the Mover The Shaker the
  90. 12:45 god-like figure the Puppet Master next thing is disruption and destruction of the
  91. 12:53 workplace the narcissist is chaotic is challenging is ordinary is constantly
  92. 13:02 contumacious hates Authority and and undermining
  93. 13:08 defiant The Narcissist disrupts orderly
  94. 13:14 procedures of Labor and productivity the narcissist is destructive his aim is destruction because he thrives he
  95. 13:25 thrives on disorder no in economy
  96. 13:31 in economics we have a concept of creative destruction it’s the outcome of
  97. 13:37 innovation Innovation renders older Technologies obsolete destroys them but
  98. 13:44 this is good destruction it’s creative destruction the narcissist’s way is non-creative
  99. 13:52 destruction non-creative disruption there’s nothing in the aftermath of the devastation that
  100. 14:01 the narcissist Ricks upon the workplace it’s not as if the narcissist is trying to clear the undergrowth and underbrush in order to grow new trees or new
  101. 14:14 vegetation that’s not the case the narcissist is not making place for Innovation creativity
  102. 14:22 a spirit of togetherness teamwork no that’s not the nonsense is goal the narcissist’s goal is to demonstrate first and foremost to himself that he has the capacity to punish penalize everyone
  103. 14:37 for the narcissistic injuries and modifications that he has suffered it’s a form of vindictiveness Revenge
  104. 14:45 taking it out on the workplace on his boss on his colleagues and so it’s a kind of Old Testament God
  105. 14:54 he destroys the workplace sabotages it in order to restore his sense of cosmic
  106. 15:03 Justice engages in one upmanship passive aggression or outright Rage which could
  107. 15:11 escalate and become violent and we have mass shootings in in workplaces which
  108. 15:18 are traceable through frustrated narcissism of course No text this is the narcissist way of feeling that it is again in charge again on top
  109. 15:31 once again the god of the workplace the be the the be all the the person the
  110. 15:39 go-to person uh the hierarchy is structured and
  111. 15:45 ordered but the narcissist acts informally outside the formal structure
  112. 15:51 of the corporation in order to generate a parallel structure through which his
  113. 15:58 power his potency will flow so he is using parallel
  114. 16:04 informal structures to channel his influence his
  115. 16:10 his uh the fear that he induces the terror that induces the seduction he seduces people to collaborate with him
  116. 16:21 all this flows all this is stealth all this is
  117. 16:27 unobstrusive all this is unobtrusive all this is very invisible The Narcissist operates in a way that is
  118. 16:34 essentially non-detectable and this diagnosis is bring down massive entities massive corporations and even countries because they never operate within the power structures they create parallel structures which
  119. 16:52 are at their back and call the next issue the narcissist is concerned with having restored in his
  120. 16:59 own mind at least is Godlike divine grandiosity is abandonment injuries modification
  121. 17:07 these are intolerable and he needs to preemptively prevent them so the narcissist would defect he would abscond with the corporation’s
  122. 17:19 Secrets intellectual property and products and other designs and so on so forth and he would move to another to
  123. 17:27 the competitor that’s his way of reasserting his importance his Eminence
  124. 17:34 the control that he has over over everything including his erstwhile tormentors future is kind of denying the people who
  125. 17:45 injured him and mortified him and humiliated him and shamed him and abandoned him he denies them the
  126. 17:52 pleasure of preemption he does it first and he takes away their power
  127. 18:00 so defection betrayal treason whistleblowing yeah I know
  128. 18:06 whistleblowing is good whistleblowing is wonderful we supplying health keeps people straight whistleblowing prevents
  129. 18:13 corruption and punishes corrupt people and it’s all very true however with however whistleblowing
  130. 18:20 involves a highly narcissistic personality structure whistleblowers or narcissists not sorry to say they’re
  131. 18:27 grandiose they their main wish is Revenge vindictiveness their snitches not a nice word not politically correct
  132. 18:38 but here you go they’re snitches they have no loyalty and
  133. 18:44 not criticizing whistleblowing as a practice I think it’s essential but it takes a specific type of person the motivation behind whistleblowing is not pure in the vast majority of cases it’s a narcissistic power play
  134. 19:00 and it’s intended to restore the equilibrium the sacred equilibrium of
  135. 19:06 the narcissist precarious what passes for personality
  136. 19:12 and so on to avoid abandonment injuries and modification the narcissist’s abundance
  137. 19:18 injures and modifies first preemptively subversion The Narcissist subverts Traditions rules regulations
  138. 19:29 expectations dreams hopes plans programs you name it narcissists undermines
  139. 19:36 sabotages subverts destroys from the bottom up this is a form of control from
  140. 19:43 the bottom he is he knows knows the foundation he is like
  141. 19:50 a termite it’s a way it’s a way to the pillars the axes the pivots and the core
  142. 19:58 of the environment in which he finds himself embedded
  143. 20:04 and so this is this is subversion narcissist is engaged in virtue signaling and competitive victimhood
  144. 20:12 they create conditions and situations where they can claim to be victims
  145. 20:18 and then they leverage their Newfound status as victims coupled with their sense of entitlement
  146. 20:27 and they punish punish their alleged ostensible abusers
  147. 20:35 usually laughing all the way to the bank with massive reparations and compensation
  148. 20:41 so this is another strategy which involves litigiousness narcissists are notoriously litigious
  149. 20:49 No text narcissism of course is about appearances not about substance remember that the narcissist relates to other people exclusively via the shared
  150. 21:01 fantasy model The Narcissist forces everyone around him to Mother him
  151. 21:07 to cater to his needs to to be alert to his special
  152. 21:13 requirements to to kind of phone over him so
  153. 21:21 the narcissist creates a shared fantasy in the workplace and the shared fantasy of course is a fantasy it’s not reality it’s devotional reality and it impairs
  154. 21:32 everyone’s reality testing narcissism is contagious the entire workplace becomes
  155. 21:38 delusional and infected in a way everyone begins to behave narcissistically everyone develops narcissistic defenses everyone experiences complex trauma
  156. 21:51 and so narcissists emphasize appearances not substance their entitlement
  157. 21:58 their entitlement is founded on appearances The Narcissist sells you a narrative
  158. 22:07 counterfactual storyline or script and then you have to comply with the fantasy
  159. 22:15 otherwise you are punished they have to comply with the fantasy you’re coerced into conforming to your snapshot in the narcissist’s mind and this is part of the narcissist
  160. 22:27 entitlement because the narcissist is preoccupied with appearances
  161. 22:36 The Narcissist prefers shortcuts buses has no patience is lazy he has no
  162. 22:43 work ethic no discipline and so he prefers shortcuts even if
  163. 22:49 these shortcuts are somehow are shall we put it gently unethical immoral and in
  164. 22:55 many cases even criminal so many of these shortcuts involve intellectual property crimes
  165. 23:01 white-collar crimes Financial crimes and so on so forth
  166. 23:07 this is where the narcissist anti-social Dimension comes into play
  167. 23:14 narcissists don’t have depth they are they are a pond masquerading as
  168. 23:20 an ocean they have only headline knowledge and headline intelligence you push them a bit and you you realize
  169. 23:31 they have no idea what they’re talking about they mispronounce words they use them wrongly they are they are buffoons
  170. 23:38 they’re clowns they pretend to be deep they pretend to be knowledgeable but actually they’re
  171. 23:44 ignorant they glean a word here word there they copy people they imitate they mimic and
  172. 23:52 so on so forth this is especially true with covert narcissists by the way and so there’s a lot of faked expertise
  173. 23:59 that the narcissist uses to Foster engender the appearances and then impose
  174. 24:06 them on other people he compels other people to to accept
  175. 24:12 that appearances are the substance that you don’t need to go beyond appearances
  176. 24:18 that the whole world is a spectacle the Society of spectacle and that you
  177. 24:24 can fake it till you make it because no one is deep everyone is pre is is
  178. 24:30 concerned with appearances no one has substance even so-called experts and I
  179. 24:36 don’t know people with academic degrees they have no idea what they’re talking about you can easily it’s magical
  180. 24:42 thinking you know magical thinking if you just put your mind to it you can accomplish anything there’s a giant
  181. 24:49 within you who is just waiting to awake and all this nonsense you can you can
  182. 24:55 compel the universe to conform to your wishes and hopes and dreams and so on so forth fake everything is fake a narcissist within the organization
  183. 25:07 creates concentric waves of Faking and
  184. 25:13 forgery and gradually everyone plays this game everyone begins
  185. 25:20 to fake everyone engages in shortcuts everyone pretends because they see that the
  186. 25:28 narcissist is getting away with it still getting his salary still being promoted still schmutzers were the right people you know so they say why not why do I
  187. 25:39 have to study hard and work hard you know all I have to do is imitate emulate mimic and fake and goodbye with this and this is a
  188. 25:50 narcissist contribution to the corporate culture of the workplace he contaminates it he corrupts it
  189. 25:56 it leads to Decay and decomposition because all work habits
  190. 26:02 become dissolute people become indolent
  191. 26:08 and kind of promiscuous and forgiving for lapses and othersides and mistakes and bad practices and so on and so forth narcissists engage frequently in No text plagiarism claim credit when it’s undue steal other people’s work and ideas
  192. 26:30 openly and then brag about it or mock the original originator of the idea
  193. 26:37 they engage in misrepresentation intended to inflate their self-image and
  194. 26:43 self-perception so they misrepresent their qualifications their education
  195. 26:49 their capacity their knowledge their experience their personal history
  196. 26:56 and the exaggerate things or they minimize things or and you can never
  197. 27:02 trust a narcissist representation it’s bound to be a misrepresentation there’s
  198. 27:08 a grandiose big picture there is a disdain for details been counting is not
  199. 27:15 for the narcissist The Narcissist has a sweeping panoramic synoptic view of what
  200. 27:21 needs to be done in the World At Large and in workplaces in the corporations
  201. 27:27 place in an emerging universe that only he can behold on the horizon his is the
  202. 27:34 view of God and all the others are mere mortals now when you try to get down to Brass
  203. 27:42 Stacks discuss details and the narcissist gets infuriated because you’re trying to drag him down
  204. 27:48 you’re bringing him down to the level of mere mortals and he is not one he’s
  205. 27:54 immortal narcissist is a perfectionist so they always procrastinate they never get things done they’re always on writing the next big American novel or or in the throes of a
  206. 28:07 project that never seems to end or completing their degrees Advanced academic degree having spent 20 years at a university they always
  207. 28:18 they’re always on on the way somewhere but never reach any destination they procrastinate because they’re terrified
  208. 28:25 of failure of being judged narcissistically injured and mortified in front of everyone
  209. 28:32 and there’s no problem with that if it is limited to one person you can always weed him out you can
  210. 28:39 always fire the narcissist and get rid of him sooner or later the mask Falls and you see who you’re dealing with the problem is that the narcissist as I said narcissism is contagious
  211. 28:51 The Narcissist infects is a vector of infection he infects the entire
  212. 28:57 workplace both lower level and upper level
  213. 29:03 even the leaders of the corporation succumbed to the narcissist’s Natural charm seductive offering offerings
  214. 29:11 proposed shortcuts and so on so forth before you know it the entire Corporation is compromised the entire
  215. 29:17 workplace is decrypted in corrupt and criminalized and and sealing With Envy
  216. 29:25 in malevolence in conflict and so on this is the narcissist contribution and so it’s very dangerous to compromise with the narcissistic employee to countenance him to to make
  217. 29:41 to make concessions to somehow accommodate him very dangerous
  218. 29:47 as in in as in Intimate Relationships the only strategy in the workplace is no
  219. 29:55 contact fire is us get rid of him now not a moment too late the minute you identify an employee
  220. 30:08 as someone who engages in any or all of these practices any or all of these or
  221. 30:15 some portion of these practices fire him or her no one is indispensable Don’t Be
  222. 30:22 Afraid someone is bullying colluding conspiring disrupting destroying engages
  223. 30:30 in one upmanship is being passive aggressive rageful uh someone is treasonous
  224. 30:38 someone is subversive someone is is constantly the victim someone is
  225. 30:46 Teachers someone is entitled Pro prefers or prefers shortcuts
  226. 30:53 is anti-social and possibly Criminal fakes expertise when there is none
  227. 31:00 plagiarizes claims credit for other people’s work misrepresents himself inflates himself
  228. 31:06 is grandiose has disdainful details procrastinates
  229. 31:12 any of these practices get rid of the rotten apple known as the narcissistic
  230. 31:20 employee because if you don’t all the apples in the barrel will end up
  231. 31:26 being rotten
